What style of belly dancing are we doing?

We are learning more Egyptian style, some of the slower style movements, which is great for beginners.

What kind of muscles are worked in Belly Dancing?

It will improve muscle tone, overall flexibility, and shape but you won't develop the hard, sharply-defined musculature of gym-bodies.

Can any fitness level do belly dancing?

Yes, there are always alternative moves for each fitness type.

Is Belly Dancing for women only?

Traditionally it is only a womans dance. As a teacher I prefer to keep it traditional. Womens hips help make the unique moves. However there may be other belly dance teachers out there that teach men too.

Do you have to show your belly during the dance?

No, we live in the modern age and you can wear normal loose workout gear.

Is belly dance good exercise, will it help me lose weight?

Some students do lose weight but only if they also adopt better eating habits and add regular dance practice to their home routine.

What is the difference between All Middle Eastern Dances Turkish, Egyptian & Greek?

In Turkish Belly Dance - predominant hip movement like the hip lift, movements are bold and strong, with hair tosses, spins and kicks, leaps and floorwork are common.

In Egyptian Belly Dance -the sit, kick, front ( also known as the Egyptian Basic). hip thrust, belly roll, hip lift, hip drop.

In Greek Belly Dance - their common moves are the shoulder shimmy, vertical backwards figure 8, and hip circle.
